| Additional Needs at Newfold | ||
![]() |
According to the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, children have special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them.
At Newfold, we prefer to use the term ‘Additional Needs’.
Children have a learning difficulty if they:
a) have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of
children of the same age; or
(b) have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of
educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same
age, in schools within the area of the local education authority.
(DfES/581/Nov 2001)
We believe that every child should succeed and achieve their true potential. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure that children in our care, with additional needs, receive the best possible support. We want parents to feel confident that their individual child’s needs are being met and that they are comfortable communicating with school on every level. Every child has a right to an education that takes into account their individualities, including learning differences and disabilities. In many early years settings and schools, children with additional needs achieve good rates of progress if there are appropriate interventions to meet those needs and parents work alongside school, to support their children.
At Newfold we have recently achieved ‘Dyslexia Friendly School Status’.
