Welcome to English at Newfold.
"We aim to inspire a love of reading, writing and discussion, through our rich and diverse literary heritage. Children take pride in their writing; can write clearly and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. Through our approach, children become confident readers with a joy of reading and love of literature. Their oracy skills of speaking and listening are used in discussion to develop their learning. We believe that a thorough grasp of English skills is fundamental to a high quality education and their future achievements."

The Journey Trilogy - Whole school approach
To kick start the year, children from all classes really enjoyed reading the final book in 'The Journey Trilogy' by Arron Becker. The final instalment in the series really inspired each year group to create some amazing pieces of writing based on parts of the story.
World Book Week 2022
Once again this year, we continued to enrich our English curriculum by celebrating World Book Week. As with previous years, we hosted a wide range of events throughout the week, highlighting the importance of reading and writing in a fun way! We particularly enjoyed welcoming Manchester born poet Matt Goodfellow to our school. He worked in each class delivering his 'Rebel writing' poetry workshops, inspiring so many of our young poets!
